Professor David J. O’Regan: internationally recognised surgeon, educator, and advocate for excellence in surgical training. Current position: Professor in the Medical Education Research and Development Unit at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. Professor O’Regan combines decades of clinical experience with passion for educational innovation. Distinguished clinical career as Consultant Adult Cardiac Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (UK), where he championed: mentorship, commitment to professional development and continuous quality improvement in healthcare. Pioneering simulation-based and low-fidelity skills training, Professor O’Regan founded the Black Belt Academy of Surgical Skills (BBASS) — an international educational community (engaging 5,000+ participants across 135 countries). Established the Yorkshire Heart Centre Wetlab, securing significant funding to develop this state-of-the-art surgical skills centre, whilst directing the long- running PAR Excellence and PAR Aorta training programmes (internationally recognised for delivery & outstanding educational impact).

Alberto R Ferreres, MD, PhD, JD, MPH, received his Medical Degree “Summa cum Laude” from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) School of Medicine in december 1979. He completed his training in general surgery and surgical oncology at the University of Buenos Aires from 1980 to 1987. He also received a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Buenos Aires School of Law in 1987, a Masters of Public Health (Salvador University, Buenos Aires, 1995), and a Masters in Health Administration (Austral University, Buenos Aires, 1996). Professor Ferreres was an International Guest Scholar of the ACS in 1991, when he completed his training in minimal invasive surgery in the US. He is presently Professor of Surgery at the University of Buenos Aires and Professor of Surgery and Ethics at the University of Washington (Seattle, USA). He was the Chairman of the Department of General Surgery at the UBA until 2022 when he was promoted to Director, Education and Research at the same institution. He has always been involved in surgical education both with medical students and postgraduate residents and fellows, being a true and loyal mentor as well as a “role-model” for several generations. He has also developed a keen interest in Surgical Ethics, sitting at the ACS Committee on Ethics and serving as Editor in Chief for the College’s Textbook “Issues in Surgical Ethics”. He is also the Editor of the book “Surgical Ethics: principles and practice”, published in 2019 and is currently working on a new book on Ethics with case presentations and discussions (to be published by Springer).

Dr. Joshi is the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education/Designated Institutional Official and Professor of Surgery at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden, NJ. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the American Board of Surgery’s (ABS) Surgical Council on Resident Education (SCORE)—which is the national curriculum for surgery. He was also the 2023-2024 President of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery. In Fall 2025, he will receive an honorary fellowship (ad hominem) from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and be inducted as a Member of the Academy of Master Surgeon Educators of the American College of Surgeons. At Brown University’s 8-year Program in Liberal Medical Education, he received his BA in Music in 1997 and MD (with academic distinction) in 2001. He completed his surgical residency at New York Presbyterian/Cornell and fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at North Shore/Long Island Jewish Hospitals. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery. His clinical interests include general surgery with a focus on hernia repairs. His principal research interests are resident recruitment and curricular development within surgical training. He has authored over 150 scientific manuscripts and presentations

Dr Dara O’Keeffe trained in surgery for eight years before entering healthcare education in 2006. At the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, she was instrumental in establishing the first mandatory programme in Human Factors for trainees in Surgery and Emergency Medicine. There she also designed and implemented national assessments in technical and non- technical skills, before moving to a role in Simulation-based Learning at the Brigham and Women’s hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School. She returned to RCSI in 2015 where she has continued to develop high-fidelity simulation programmes for postgraduate trainees across multiple specialties and disciplines. She has a Masters in Healthcare Education from the University of Chicago and a diploma in Healthcare Management. She was a founder member of the Irish Association for Simulation and is currently Chair of the Accreditation Review Board of NASCE (Network of Accredited Skills Centres in Europe). In this role she is responsible for reviewing and accrediting simulation centres internationally. Her areas of specialisation include Human Factors, faculty development and using simulation for assessment.

Dr Adrian Anthony is a General Surgeon from Adelaide, Australia. Dr Anthony completed an Upper GI Fellowship at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, UK, before returning as a Consultant General Surgeon at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide. As a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), Dr Anthony has been involved in surgical education for over 25 years while maintaining a full-time surgical practice. Dr Anthony co-developed and now coordinates the surgical course for the University of Adelaide MD Program and is also the Director of Clinical Training for pre-vocational medical education at Central Adelaide Local Health Network. Dr Anthony held the position of Censor in Chief for RACS from 2022 to 2025, overseeing educational governance for RACS surgical education and training. Dr Anthony’s practice as an educator incorporates undergraduate and post-graduate educational governance, curriculum design, development of work-based assessments, supporting trainee performance, implementing evidence-based educational practice, promoting educational practice of clinicians, maintenance of educational accreditation standards and improving the culture around education and training in the workplace.

Professor Dato’ Dr April Camilla Roslani

Professor Dato’ Dr. April Camilla Roslani is a Professor of Colorectal Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya. An accomplished surgeon, educator, and academic leader, she founded Malaysia’s first Colorectal Surgery Unit at the University Malaya Medical Centre and established the country’s pioneering Cytoreductive Surgery and HIPEC service. From 2020 to 2024, she served as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, where she led transformative reforms in postgraduate training, advocating for training of trainers, improving workplace professionalism, and institutional governance. Her leadership extends globally as Director of the International Office of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Councillor-at-Large of the International Society of Surgery. She is also council member of the Malaysian Medical Council and the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia. She has served as President of several surgical associations, including the Asia Pacific Federation of Coloproctology, College of Surgeons Academy of Medicine of Malaysia (CSAMM) and the Malaysian Society of Colorectal Surgeons (MSCRS). Professor Roslani’s research spans colorectal cancer outcomes, surgical education, and gender equity in medicine. She has been recognised with numerous international honorary fellowships, including from the Royal Colleges of Surgeons (Ireland, England, Edinburgh) and the American Surgical Association, and was recently conferred the royal title of Dato’ in recognition of her services to surgical education in Malaysia.
